Location and History
Located a stone’s throw from High Street Kensington tube station, The Roof Gardens has been an exotic destination for over half a century. The dream of Trevor Bowen, the then Vice-President of Barkers and Ralph Hancock, a landscape architect, The Roof Gardens was laid out between 1936-8.
Over 500 species of plants, shrubs and trees were planted to create the horticultural splendour that visitors enjoy today. Since that time, the building has passed through several hands – with a special high point its seventies period when as roof garden of the Biba department store it was THE London destination. A spell as exclusive nightclub Regine’s followed until 1981, when Sir Richard Branson turned the Kensington Roof Gardens into the stunning urban oasis that it is today.
Interior / Exterior and Spaces for Hire
The Roof Gardens is one of the most versatile venues for hire in London in which to celebrate and say your vows to your loved one. The gardens offer stunning backdrops in which to toast an engagament on the Babylon terrace, feast on a wedding breakfast in the romantic Spanish gardens, BBQ under the Tudor Walkway or watch a romantic firework display from the English Woodland Garden.
High on the 7th floor, The Babylon Restaurant offers an amazing and beautiful dining and drinks reception experience with stunning panoramas across the London skyline and a menu including Dorset Crab and Morecambe Bay Shrimps, Seared Scottish Diver caught Scallops, with perhaps Roast Rumb of Herdwick Lamb or Roast Fillet of Cornish Grey Mullet.
The Club House has floor to ceiling windows making the most of the inspiring views across the gardens and London skyline. This is a cool wedding reception space and offers a perfect setting for dancing, dinners and live music events.
The main reception area features a dance floor, bar and DJ booth and is divided from the chilled-out lounge area by a curved retractable partition. The calm lounge space features floor to ceiling Damask mosaic in real silver, welcoming cushioned seating, a private bar and LED lighting. Both these spaces offer fresh and funky spaces for your an engagement or wedding party.
The Moo room is decked out with pink-patterned wallpaper, cowhide pouffes, and a high contemporary LED painting of a cow… ideal for use as a wedding changing room or private area for you and your wedding party.
